ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Dom Kennedy.

Welcome to Leimart Park, California where Dom Kennedy is the mayor. Not familiar with him? Well, it's about time to get your catch up on. Dom has been holding it down for the Left Coast since he dropped his debut project, The 25th Hour, a few years back. He's been steadily growing his buzz on hard work alone. No frills, no gimmicks, just the grind. His latest album, Future Street/Drug Sounds looks to push him to that next level with a disc full of timeless music. But don't take my word for it, let Dom explain...

Download his last album HERE, bump it in your whip, and then send your thank you letters to hiphopofficial@gmail.com

DAMN, I WISH I WAS ON THAT!!!

I love this segment. Because honestly, we can all relate. We all a have a song (or songs) that we've heard and said to ourselves, "Daaaaaamn, I wish I was on that!" Whether you wanted to spit a verse on it, produce it, write it, or just shout out some Diddy-like adlibs in the background. What song do you wish you could have been a part of?

Well we asked hip hop artists Dom Kennedy and Donny Goines that very question. They talk about some classic 90's music and songs that they would have liked to have been a part of. The answers may surprise you.

The New West.

U-N-I. Shawn Jackson. Diz Gibran. Dom Kennedy. Say hello to the New West. Gone are the lowriders, drive-bys, and crack raps of the 1980's gangsta rap movement set in motion by artists like N.W.A. There is a new wave of hip-hop representing the Left Coast that is invading the nation and raising the creative bar.

The good people at Vibe magazine have finally realized the dope music that the westcoast, L.A. in particular, have been putting out in the past year. All this week, they are running a whole feature called New West of 5 different, but very fresh Los Angeles acts. Every single one of them has gotten shine on this blog and Hip Hop Official in general. So it's only right that they continue to blaze on. Check out the articles and learn a little something.

New West: U-N-I

New West: Shawn Jackson

New West: Diz Gibran

New West: Dom Kennedy

Check back tomorrow, for Friday's feature.
