Shawn Chrystopher - A City With No Seasons [Free Album]

A big congratulations to the homie Shawn Chrystopher are in order. His debut album, A City With No Seasons, is finally here for the world to hear. I know how much blood, sweat, a tears Shawn put into this album. Most rappers write rhymes, but Shawn wrote his life. I had a chance to get an advance screening of this album, and I'll say this...It might change the way you listen to Hip-Hop. But enough from me, I'll let Shawn tell it:

I’m a person who loves to take chances, loves tight-roping the line between genius and insanity; the artwork for my debut album is no different. I felt, in hip hop, we were playing things a little too safe with our album artwork, scared of the backlash we would get and ultimately not being true to ourselves. I’m here to change that. The A City With No Seasons artwork is inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat because his art was debated about the most on whether or not it is real art because it looks ‘elementary.’

I honestly believe that there is no such thing as wrong, or bad art; that is difference between art and math. If I say 2+2=5 I’m wrong, but because my lines aren’t straight and my coloring isn’t inside the lines my art isn’t art? Art is all about expressing yourself, and no one can ever say that you are expressing yourself incorrectly.

It’s ok to say you don’t understand; what’s not ok is to say that it’s wrong.

Hailing from the City with No Seasons, a.k.a. Los Angeles, Shawn Chrystopher is set to break out big. Claiming to be "more than a rapper" is often times a cliche thing to say, but with Shawn you know it's the truth. After receiving a substantial co-sign from streetwear giant L-R-G, and gaining steam from his two previous mixtapes; IWG: I Wear Glasses and IWG2: I Told You So, Shawn's debut album drops this August. It might be a little different from what you would expect from your typical L.A. rapper. And that's just the way Shawn wants it.

Here is the lead single from Shawn's upcoming album, A City With No Seasons. I've had this joint in my iTunes for a minute, but Shawn finally gave the green light to release it to the masses. Here's what Shawn has to say about this jammy jam:

The reason why the song is untitled is because it’s a love story, and I felt if I gave the song any kind of “love” title it would already be looked at as ‘cheesy’ and ‘predictable’ before anyone got a chance to listen to it. So this way, people get to judge the song solely based on its production and lyrics (as they should anyway). Sort of like reading a book with no cover or synopsis on the back, just you and the art

Shawn has some big things poppin, so it's time to take notice. This week he is being featured on MySpace. And next week he'll be the Hip Hop Official Artist of the Week. That's what's up.

“I really hope people enjoy this video. It seems Black History Month really doesn’t mean that much to us anymore, and though I won’t be able to change it single-handedly, I would however like to draw some attention to show everyone, especially my fellow artists, where exactly we came from.

I watch Spike Lee’s “Bamboozled” religiously and realize that a lot of the Black musicians today take their notoriety and success as something that is owed to them. I really hope after watching this video, that mindset changes; for the better.”
