THROWBACK THURSDAYS.

I mean, it's only right...I am wearing my Southernplayalistic shirt today. But for real, for real...when I first heard this joint back in 1993, I was blown away. I actually remember where I was when I first saw the music video, sitting in my dad's living room watching Rap City over the summer. That shit changed my life.

I had never heard any rappers from Atlanta. it was all so new to me. These cats were talking about some ill player shit. The music was incredible. Fonky. Something to ride to in your Cadillac. These cats painted pictures. And it wasn't just what they were saying, it was how they were saying it. The style was so laid back and effortlessly cool. I naturally gravitated towards it. I wanted more. A few months later, I copped their debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik and was hooked. To this day, Outkast remains one my top 3 favorite groups of all time, and I can honestly say their first 3 albums rival ANYBODY'S first 3 albums. Ask somebody.

So with that being said, we take it throw it back to where it all started....The Players Ball.

Daily Dopeness: Elevators.

So last night I was a wearing a sweatshirt with this chorus on it. You know it, we all know it...

Me & You,
Yo Momma &
Yo Cousin Too.

This girl asked me what my sweatshirt meant. I had to walk away. This song is just too classic to not know where it's from and what it is. And what It is dope. And now it's your daily dose of dopeness.

Daily Dopeness: SpottieoOttieDopaliscious.

Outkast's catalog is so thick, it's hard to pick just one track, but this track always standouts to me for some reason. On one hand, it sort of marks the identity change of Outkast - from the legendary Southernplayalistic/Atliens 'Kast to the popular new Speakerboxx/Love Below 'Kast. Personally, I prefer the former. Outkast's first three albums rival only Tribe's first three albums as my favorite catalog from any group. That's how good Outkast's first three albums were. So this song kind of marks the end of Era for me. Tear.

What makes this song so dope to me is the fact that it's not really a rap song. There's no rhyming. It's over 7 minutes long. There's no actually hook. On paper, it doesn't even appear to be a good song. But that's the beauty of this track. It feels bigger than life.

Instead of their usually complex rhyme schemes and clever wordplay, Andre and Big shift into a slow mo, spoken-word, story telling mode -- in which Andre descibes through vivid detail his experience in an Atlanta nightclub, and Big Boi recounts beautifully the night he met his baby momma. The driving bassline creates a loungy, almost spacey vibe. The pulsating and infectious horns act as the break between verses and carry the song triumphantly. The crisp drums provide a slightly subtle offbeat Southern bounce. But it all blends perfectly, let the liquor tell it.

[NEW] Big Boi - "Dubbz"

Daddy Fat Sacks, B-I-G, B-O-I, it's that same muthafucka that took them knuckles to your eye. He's dropping a new solo album soon, and here's a song from said album. It's called "Dubbz" and it's probably about riding on rims. *Shrugs*

I'm an OutKast fan forever, but this isn't my favorite offering from Antwan Patton. It's a little too "trendy" for me, if that makes sense. It sounds like an random Atlanta rapper, as opposed to Big Boi. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this leakage was somebody else's track that Big Boi appeared on. Whatever. So much for selling it...

Tell Andre 3000 He's Wack.

That's what he says, not me. I think he's one of the top 5 emcees in the game. But he uses that as motivation to make better music, and we all want better music, so tell him he's wack and he'll make mo' better music.

YOU'RE WACK, ANDRE BENJAMIN!

Now go to the damn studio.

Big Boi talks about new album

"Outkast are stronger than ever."

Big Boi is dropping a solo album in July called "Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Dusty Chico." Andre drops his later this year, and the 'Kast is putting out another album as a group at the beginning of the next year. Hootie Hoo

"I said I wanted to bring that hip-hop back," said Big Boi. "My album is about lyricism and about the craft. I saw Raekwon and he jumped on it. Actually, me and Raekwon recorded three songs. We were gonna finish it with just me and him. When Dre came back from Japan, he heard it and said, 'I wanna be on that.' I gave him the beat. He came back in a couple of months and was like, 'Let's do it.' "

Big Boi also spoke on other collaborations for the album. "Thirteen cuts. Everything is brand new. I got a duet with Mary J. Blige that will probably be the second single, called 'The World Is Too Big.' It's definitely monumental. I needed somebody that could sing with that emotion and power. Like an old-school soul singer. That Motown throat! I always wanted to work with her."

The first single off of the album is called Royal Flush, featuring Andre 3000 and Raekwon. The song, named after Big Boi's production group, has been making its rounds on the Internet. You can hear it here. Dre absolutely murders the last verse.
