Here we go. New single from Marshall Mathersand his upcoming album, Relapse. This one if pretty crazy. Em mentioned in his interview with Angela Yee that he tried to make his flow different on every song. This is definitely different. Shady steps inside the mind of an insane and delusional psychopath to tell the tale of his brutal serial killings. Think Buffalo Bill. Very uplifting.
He does a weird accent thing with his voice that bothered me at first, but it actually works. Especially if he's telling the story from another perspective. I had to listen to this about 5 times straight before I picked up on all the nuisances. Technically speaking, Em is still on another level. The inflections and flow are marvelous.

J Dilla MiniMegaMix by DJ Rhettmatic.
Dilla week starts early here at the Notorious B.L.O.G. and I couldn't be happier. If you know anything about me, know that Dilla was one of my favorite producers of all time. His influence and impact on hip hop is immeasurable. His birthday is this Saturday (tomorrow) Feb 7th, and all next week is going to be flooded with dope Dilla music to reflect on his life and honor his legacy. We set it off with a MiniMegaMix that DJ Rhettmatic through together as a Pre-Birthday mix called 'WHATUPDOE 09." I'll let him explain it...
Anyways, this is a mini mega mix of some of Dilla's songs & production. I originally did this as a 10 minute mix for the mixtape project that J.Rocc, Houseshoes, & myself did with Dave New York 2 years ago to help out Mrs. Maureen Yancey aka Ma Dukes, Dilla's mother.....an incredible lady (if y'all know the name of the mix cd project, go head & get it......) So I extended this mix from 10 minutes to 35 minutes. It was pretty much impossible for me to get everything that Dilla did on this mix (he has such a big discography, it's ridiculous), especially for the fact I wanted to finish this before his birthday in such a short period of time. Of course, you'll hear some of the classic songs that Dilla has produced in the mix, but you'll also get to here some Dilla beats that you might have or have not heard before, and a live recording of Dilla performing "F*ck The Police" at one of his show in Europe (Paris, France to be exact) on his last tour ever (I was lucky & honored to be his tour dj for his last performances).
Like I said before, I don't think anyone can do a J Dilla mix as great as J.Rocco's, but here's my mix for you to download...nothing really crazy. Please feel free to share with your friends & post it up on your music blog. I hope you enjoy the mix as much as I enjoyed making this. Thanks for checkin this out.

And stayed tuned for more Dilla next week...

Eminem - "Number One" (prod by Dr. Dre)
Oh lord. This is dope. I don't know much about this, but this what I do know: It's a brand new Eminem joint. It's produced by Dr. Dre. It's unfinished, and sounds like a reference track. Em is actually spitting Dre's verse on this one, assumably scratch vocals for Dre to get the cadence and flow down so he can go in and record his final verse. It's also rumored that 50 is supposed to appear on the final version. Hearing this is like stepping into the studio with Dre and Em during the recording process. Don't sleep on this one.

[VIDEO] Illa J - "R U Listenin" & "We Here"
The first two videos from Illa J, off his album Yancey Boys. Both tracks were produced by you know who...Mr. J Dilla. In fact, the whole album was.
Slum Village - "Drop The Drums" (Demo)
This is fresh. T3 from Slum Village (R.I.P. Dilla) recently started his own blog and dropped this rare gem on the people featuring MC BReed (R.I.P.). This is a demo cut from Slum when they were still developing their sound, circa 1990. It has a pretty heavy Black Sheep feel to me. I say they came a long way...

Illa J Interview - Part 1
In this first of a 2 part series, Illa J talks about his musical roots that stem from his family bloodline, including his brother, the late great J Dilla. Like his brother, Illa J is a triple threat, excelling as a talented emcee, singer, and producer. He also talks about his brand new album which dropped Nov 4th, Yancey Boys, in which he sings and spits over classic Jay Dee beats from his days on Delicious Vinyl back in 1995-1997. I just copped the album, and you should too.
Part 2 drops tomorrow.

Ill J on VIMBY
J Dilla’s lil bro Illa J holds it down for Detroit and keeps the legacy alive. VIMBY goes behind-the-scenes of his new music video single “R U Listenin.” His album Yancy Boys drops this Tuesday, Nov 4th. It features Illa J rhyming and singing over unheard Dilla beats from 1995-1998. I've heard it and it's nice.

[NEW] Black Milk - "Losing Out" (ft. Royce Da 5'9")
This beat is crazy. Black Milk does his thing with Royce Da 5'9" over this head banger. Milk has really stepped his drum programming game up. Black Milk's album, Tronic, hits stores tomorrow. I've heard it, and I must say it provides more heat for your ears than earmuffs. Go cop that.

Daily Dopeness: Get Dis Money.
Jay Dee at his finest...
Interesting story about this song, from T3 of Slum:
We would always hear stuff in progress, like for “Get Dis Money” there’s a lot of little intricate stuff in the background of that song that didn’t happen until the last two weeks before the album had to be turned in. A little singing here, a little sound effects and all that. The drum programming on “Get Dis Money” is a little off. Dilla didn’t like to use a metronome or whatever, so some would be slightly off beat, but on purpose. It’s just the way his ear was, crazy.
What’s funny about “Get Dis Money” is that Baatin wrote three verses before we liked one, me and Dilla was being real hard on his rhyme. If you listen to Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, Baatin don’t talk about the topic at all. It ended up being like we was doing it on purpose, but originally it was not on purpose. Dilla was more upset than anybody about staying on topic. I think our fans have grown to love that about Baatin, but at the time it was frustrating. He would just talk about anything. The song is about getting money and the pursuit of it, a real simple concept, and Baatin would just start talking bout his family and then go over here and over there…you ain’t know where he’s going! Even with three verses, Dilla still took out a part of his rhyme on the final version, Dilla kind of faded him out on the end of that song."

Ah Shit. New Emimem. I'm so glad to hear this...Hip-Hop needs him.
Drug references, crudeness, multi-syllables wordplay, chain saw noises, the whole nine...it's all in here.

Illa J.
We set up an interview with Illa J yesterday at Fat Beats in Los Angeles. Very cool and humble dude. For those of you not knowing, he's J Dilla's little brother and is releasing an album on Delicious Vinyl on Nov. 4th (Election Day) called Yancy Boys in which he rhymes over old Dilla beats, circa '95. This kid has serious talent, not to mention he's a splitting image of Jay Dee. It's crazy.
It was dope talking to him about his family and older brother. He had some cool stories about the entire Yancy family, who are all talented musicians in their own right. He basically grew up in a house full of musicians, so music is almost second nature to him. Besides, having Dilla making beats for the likes of the Pharcyde, Tibe, Common, and De La in your basement when you're a little kid couldn't hurt either.
Here are some pics from the day. interview coming shortly...

[NEW] Illa J - R U Listen' (feat Guilty Simpson)
The younger of the Yancy Boys drops a new joint featuring Guilty Simpson. The one is again produced by his older brother, J Dilla, and the more music I hear from Illa J, the more I'm convinced this kid has natural ability embedded in his DNA and he's starting to tap into the inner Yancy talent. Nice to hear the Dilla torch being carried on.
