One of Dilla's finest remixes of all time is this week's Westcoast Wednesday. The Pharcyde's "She Said" (Jay Dee Remix) appeared on their sophomore album, Labcabincalifornia. This is a perfect joint for this rainy Cali day.

[NEW] Raekwon ft. Cappadonna & Ghostface - "10 Bricks" (Prod. by J. Dilla)
New shit from Raekwon's upcoming album, Only Built For Cuban Linx 2. This is official. It looks like this album might actually see the light of day. It's also dope that the 2 songs leaks from this project are produced by J Dilla. Good thinking, Raekwon. We also get a Cappadonna sighting, which is exciting in itself. Sorta.

[NEW] Raekwon (ft. Ghostface, Method Man, Inspectah Deck) - "Flying Daggers" (prod by J Dilla)
Sound the sirens. Hide the women and children. The Wu is back! This joint is fire. Five legends on one song? It's disgusting. Dilla channeled his inner RZA on this one, and came with a classic Wu sounding beat. Deck set off the song with his best verse since "Triumph." Rae brings his classic mafioso drug dealer rap. Method Man brings comes with his usual top notch braggadocios word play. And Ghost manages to spit a hard ass verse while still mentioning every article of clothing in his closet.
Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 drops September 8th. Yes, I'm officially excited.

Today, the tracklist was released for Raekwon's highly anticipated album and it features production from some of the best to ever do it, including Dr. Dre, Pete Rock, Dilla, and of course the RZA,
We sat down with the Chef to talk about the producers he enlisted on his upcoming album, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2, and why he decided to work with multiple cats instead of just the RZA like he did on the original. Hotdamn, I cannot wait for this shit to drop.

HOUSE SHOES SPEAKS ON THE CHARLES HAMILTON SITUATION.
For those of you not knowing the "situation," Harlem rapper Charles Hamilton falsely listed James Yancey a.k.a. J DIlla as the executive producer of his upcoming album. Without ever meeting the man. Needless to say, this angered a couple folks, especially those close to J Dilla. One of the those people is House Shoes: Detroit's hip hop ambassador to the world, Dilla's Dj, and one of his closest friends. He came through the offices yesterday to give us the exclusive interview about this whole fuckery. Needless to say, he's not happy and neither is the whole city of Detroit.
Shout out to Shoes for coming through. We salute you, Respect due.

BAD IDEAS IN HIP-HOP: Claiming J Dilla Executive Produced Your Album.
In this week's version of BAD IDEAS IN HIP-HOP (our newest Tuesday segment), we explore the stupidity that is Charles Hamilton. In case you were sleeping all day yesterday, or don't have a Twitter account, Interscope signee Charles Hamilton just released details on his debut, This Perfect Life on his blog, and for some retarded reason, he gave an executive producer credit to late great Detroit producer, James Yancey a.k.a. J Dilla.
Oh word? Dilla worked with Charles Hamilton? Hellllll Nooooooo. Charles, who has never met, seen, spoken to, or even been in the same room as Dilla, explained the reason he did this on his blog:
I also wanna thank James Yancey for his guidance in putting this album together. Sound wise, I couldn't be happier. Again, the album was mastered reel-to-reel/digital-to-digital, and I couldn't have done the entire process without him being a total jerk about me getting that EXTRA vinyl-ish sound. Thanks Dilla.
Nah seriously. He helped master the album.
Wow. So, obviously word spreads fast on these here internets, and some well-known Detroit cats didn't take too kindly to this bold ass statement. In fact, it pretty much started a Twitter shit storm. A Shwitter Storm if you will. Some people very close to Dilla (a.k.a. his real life friends who actually knew him) said that (a) Dilla didn't know who the fuck Charles Hamilton was, and (b) he would never put his name on such garbage music. So people started to see this as a (very) cheap marketing ploy to gain more attention for his album and to ultimately sell more records. I mean, who wouldn't check out something that was apparently co-signed by one of the greatest producers of all time?
So Chuckie tried to flip the script and claim that he was going to donate proceeds from the album to the "J Dilla Music Foundation" which, well....doesn't fucking exist. He also claimed that he was close with the Yancey family and had some sort of deal with Dilla's mother, Maureen Yancey a.k.a. Ma Dukes. Well, that was another total fucking lie. DJ Houseshoes, who was Dilla's personal DJ, friend, and ambassador to Detroit, called Ma Dukes personally to clear the air, and yep...you guess it...she said had never heard of any Charles Hamilton. Now the entire Detroit hip-hop scene is on a mission to personally tear down Charles Hamilton's reputation and what's left of his career.

And it's working. Charles has become the laughing stock of the hip-hop culture and real hip-hop heads everywhere. He's a big fucking joke who wears only pink and loves Sonic The Hedgehog. He has a big ego and a bigger mouth, and it's started to catch up to him. Even his girl wanted to kick his ass. He doesn't get it. Anyone who has any sense would never tie a legend's name to their project without proper consent. Especially when that legend has been laid to rest. What you did was disrespectful, contrived, and out of line. You got called out, and then tried to lie about it to make yourself look better, and then you got caught again. Now need to take your ass beating like a man. Charles Hamilton, you are an idiot, a moron, an idiotic moron, and a dumbfuck. And you had another bad idea in Hip-hop.
Until next Tuesday, ya'll...oh, and please don't buy this goomba's album.

MISS MONDAYS.
Erykah Badu - "Didn't You Know"
Mondays are all about the ladies around these parts. This is one of my all time favorite joints from Ms. Badu, produced by the legendary j Dilla. I love Erykah's voice. It's like honeysuckle mixed with Camomile, with a splash of Xanax - It's so soothing. I hope it can bring you some relaxation and peace of mind on this hectic Monday.

Jay Stay Paid.
“Possibly the best posthumous rap record since the final releases of 2Pac and Biggie.”
-Rolling Stone Magazine
By now most everyone is familiar with the story of musical legend J Dilla. The quiet, prolific producer collaborated with everyone from Eryka Badu to Common to Janet Jackson to Prince. Dilla was just beginning to capitalize on his cult status when he sadly passed at age 32 due to Lupus-related complications. Jay Stay Paid is a 28 track collection of unreleased Dilla beats mixed and arranged by Pete Rock. Yes, that Pete Rock. While mostly instrumental, “J$P” also offers a few guests vocals from artists that Dilla worked with or admired including Black Thought of The Roots, MF DOOM, Havoc, M.O.P. , Raekwon and more.
Curtailing any notion of jumping on some sort of Dilla bangwagon, Jay Stay Paid was executive produced by Dilla’s mother Maureen Yancey (aka Ma Dukes) along with the musical supervision of Dilla’s only real musical idol, Pete Rock. “It wasn’t rushed and it wasn’t haphazard,” explains Ms. Yancey. “This album combines what he did in the beginning of his career, what he did in some of our early hospital stays, which was very deep, and some stuff pulled from old floppy disks & DATs. Its mind blowing…this is like the missing links to Dilla’s legacy.”
The format of the album plays like a radio show with Pete Rock as the program director. With regards to Pete’s involvement, Ms. Yancey gets very excited, “Dilla wanted to pattern himself behind Pete. His dream was to become as close as possible to what Pete stood for. Pete meant everything to him. Dilla would have just been flabbergasted! ” Pete’s sentiments were the same toward Dilla, “Dude was amazing. He just kinda came outta nowhere and the more you heard his beats the better they got. He may not be here with us, but it’s all good we’re going to keep his music alive and well.”
The album drops June 2nd. The tracklist is below:

Suite For Ma Dukes (Finale & Encore)
Don't even get me started at how mad I am for missing this. I had passes for this and was looking forward to it all week. My migraine had other ideas. Here is video from the J Dilla tribute last night called "Suite For Ma Dukes" in which a 40 piece orchestra played Jay Dee music all night. For the encore, Pos from De La and Talib did "Stakes Is High" and they go into "Fall In Love" and "The Official." What an amazing event.

J. Dilla x Obey “A Personal Appreciation” Print
As many of you know, J. Dilla’s mother “Ma Dukes” Yancey is now suffering from Lupus, the same disease that took her son's life in 2006. Her condition has recently become more severe and now friends are asking for your help. Previous fund raising efforts were seen through a shirt via Stones Throw and artist Parra. Shepard Fairey and Brian Cross (B+) have linked up to help the cause with a special print of J. Dilla based on a 2003 photograph taken by B+. In a limited run of 400, the prints will release on February 20th at a retail price of $55 USD (18 in x 24 in).
