ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Crown Royale.

What do you get when you mix 1 part Michigan microphone master with 1 part vinyl vandalizer from the World Famous Beat Junkies crew? You get a shot of Crown Royale. Meet the new duo, compromised of two veterans to this hip hop landscape, Buff1 and DJ Rhettmatic. If you're not familiar, Buff honed his mic skills in Michigan as part of the Athletic Mic League crew while Rhett earned his stripes winning the DMC West Coast Title in 1996, and the ITF World Champion in 1997 for his turntablism skills. These dudes are no joke.

Now they've joined forces to release a new album together, with Buff on the mic and Rhett on the beats. Wondering what it will sound like? Pure unadulterated hip hop. Some real live shit. Take a look for yourself...

[VIDEO] Buff1 - "Real Appeal"

Here's a brand new video from the homie Buff1. I'm really feeling this joint right here. It's silky smooth, proving that hip hop doesn't need to be all guns, drugs, and hoes all the time to be good. Shout out to Jackson Perry for directing the video. And if you like what you're hearing, I threw in an extra treat for you...

Detroit Love Dilla.

Jay Dee week rolls on here as we present an HHO Tribute to Dilla. Here Detroit emcees talk about what Jay Dee meant to their city and hip hop as a whole. RIP James Dewitt Yancey (1974 - 2006). Your life and legacy live on.

[NEW] 6th Sense & Wildabeast are… Both Nice - Arcade Fly (rmx) f. Buff1, Donny Goines, U-N-I & Fashawn

Fuck that's a long title. But it's worth it. This track is fire. For those slow thinking followers of the blog (I don't discriminate), 6th Sense and Wildabeast are a duo also known as Both Nice. It's clever, I know. 6th does the beats, and also rhymes. Wildabeast is a beast. They did a song called "Arcade Fly (Remix)" in which they asked fellow emcees Buff1, Donny Goines, U-N-I, and Fashawn to jump on and murder. This is that track. Mission complete.

And now for something compltely different...

Here' a new video from the homie Buff, but it's not your typical rap video. In fact, it might be the video of the year (Sorry Scarface). Some people actually try to make a difference with their voice. Pay attention and you might be inspired. Life is what you make of it.

Here's what Buff said about this one:
“This video is truly bigger than hip hop. Its timeless and defies region because homelessness is a problem everywhere and doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. I’m blessed to be apart of something so powerful, shout out to Kareem Edouard.”

[NEW] Buff1 - "What Does Hipster Mean?"

A question for the ages. Can somebody please tell me? Buff 1 explores the notion of the ever growing Hipsterism. We all know it when we see it, but nobody can actually pinpoint a true meaning.

This song goes out to all of you reading this while wearing your tight purple jeans, $200 Nikes, Hundreds hat, Cazal sunglasses, and scarf around your neck...but I ain't hating...

Buff 1 - "Beat the Speakers Up" (Live)

Buff 1 performed last week at his album release party at the Little Temple in Los Angeles, CA. (His album There Can Only Be 1 is in stores now). He threw down a dope set, and the highlight was definitely his single "Beat the Speakers Up". Hip Hop Official was there to catch all the speaker abuse.

If you are unfamiliar with Buff 1, go here and you might learn something.

Buff 1 Interview.

Michigan mic wrecker, Buff 1, sat down with Hip Hop Official to talk about his beginnings, his hometown, and his new (bangin!) single, "Beat the Speakers Up". His album, There Can Only Be 1, is in stores now and should be in your collection not now, but right now. This kid spits fire. Plus, he's humble, intelligent, and hates whack music just as much as you do.
