MOS DEF WANTS YOU TO WEAR HIS MUSIC.

That's right, the Brooklyn rapper who just released his latest album, The Ecstatic, is planning on releasing T-shirts with his album embedded in them. The shirts will feature the album cover art work on the front, and the tracklisting on the back. Each short will have a hanging tag with a special URL and code allowing you to download the album, that's pretty clever. The shirts will hit stores july 7th for $39 dollars. I might just have to cop me one. Or if you're charitable, hook me up with a crispy Large.

Mos Def Live on David Letterman.

Ok, now this is dope. The Mighty Mos perfroms his song "Quiet Dog" on Late Night with David Letterman, and he's actually playing the timpanis while rhyming. I've seen Mos a handful of times, and he's never done that. In fact, he's barely even gotten out of bed. One time I saw this cat perform in a bathrobe, and no not some Hugh Heffner or Ghostface type shit, I mean a white bathrobe that he probably stole from the hotel he was staying in. I'm just saying.

Mos pretty much kills this performance. His new album, The Ecstatic, is in stores today. Honestly, I'm actually feeling the album. I'm even surprised that I'm feeling the album. Pretty Flaco has pretty much disappointed me with his slew of half-assed releases. It's his best work since Black On Both Sides. I highly suggest you give it a spin.

The Mighty Mos kicks an acapella version of his song "Casa Bey" while walking the streets of Osaka, Japan in overalls. Yup, overalls. Mos Def is most definitely on some other shit. But I'm excited for his new album, which drops next Tueday June 9th.

Black Star x Rocksmith.

To commemorate the highly anticipated on-stage return of Black Star, the legendary duo of Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Rocksmith is releasing two brand new t-shirts on May 30th. The two designs will be available during the Black Star show this Saturday at Nokia Theater in NYC. A limited quantity will also be available on Karmaloop.com. I might just have to cop one, or both.

Here's the first video from Mos upcoming album, The Ecstatic, which drops June 6th. Are we really getting a new album from The Mighty Mos? Seriously?

There's a pretty interesting back story to this track. It's a song based on a sample of Banda Black Rio’s “Casa Forte” with Mos doing his mile-a-minute word dance over top. The story behind the beat has it that on a recent trip to South America, Mos linked up with well-known Brazilian rapper MV Bill, who gave him a tape with “Casa Forte” on it. Impressed by the track, when Mos came home, he turned to DJ Preservation and Dante Smith to flip it up into a new beat, forming the instrumental. Shit is proper.

I kind of stole this idea from the homie Eazee and Thurz (from U-N-I), but fuck it. I haven't seen that shit copyrighted yet, so until they send me a cease and desist notice, I'mma keep it rolling. Every week, I'll throw up an old school or nostalgic video. Sometimes, I'll go waaaay back. Other times, just a few years. You'll never know. Every week will be a brand new mini-cinematic adventure. I set it off with a classic track from the Rawkus vaults circa 1999. The High & Mighty's " B-Boy Document" featuring Mos Def and Mad Skillz. This song got crazy play in my CD player. But ironically, I can't remember ever seeing this video until today. Thank you, YouTube.

Mos appears in the new comedy Next Day Air, which stars Donald Faison (Scrubs) as a hapless delivery man who finds himself at the center of a drug deal gone horribly wrong when he delivers the contraband to the wrong apartment. Naturally, hilarity ensues. This movie looks like the Black Pineapple Express, except with cocaine instead of weed. It also stars Mike Epps (Top Flight Security), Wood Harris (Avon Barksdale) and Lauren London (sexy).

As you all know, Hip Hop Official was live+direct from the Glen Helen Pavilion in Los Angeles San Bernardino for the Rock The Bells Tour 2008. We took hundreds of photos from the event, featuring all your favorite rappers and your favorite rapper's favorite rappers.

I don't have to tell you that it was the Hip-Hop event of the year (Sorry Kanye). Everyone who performed ripped it. Not one person left unsatisfied... Well, except those that came to see MF DOOM.
