Common To Join The A-Team?

Rumor has it that rapper/actor/cologne salesmen Common is set to join the cast of the movie version of the classic 80's tv show, The A-Team. (Sidebar: The A-Team was one of my favorite TV shows when I was a little lad. I wanted a black van likes theres until I realized only pedophiles drive vans. And their TV theme is one of the top 5 TV Theme songs of all time. )

Ok, back to the blog post. Common. Right, he's being rumored to play the role of the legendary B.A. Baracus, who we all know was played by Mr.T on the O.G. show. That's an interesting role for the laid back Common, who also said that he can't do the mohawk... but they'll "work something out." Wait...what? No mohawk? That's his signature. That's like Slick Rick not rocking gold chains, MF DOOM not rocking his metal face, or DMX not getting arrested. Come on, Comm...you can't play B.A. Baracus without the mohawk, foo!

(We've gone ahead and through advanced computer technology made a composite of what Common would look like if he, in fact, could do a mohawk. And it looks a little like this.)

The movie is being directed by Joe Carnahan, who also directed “Smokin Aces” which featured Common. Word is Carnahan personally wanted Common for the role. Word? Personally, I always thought Ice Cube would be perfect to play Mr. T, but that's just me...

Banksy's Coming To Dinner.

...or is he? One of my favorite artist's of all time, Banksy, is more known for being unknown than anything else. The British graffiti street artist is notorious for satirical and often controversial, if not thought-provoking, stenciled works of art that pop up across the world without notice. Whenever a new piece appears, the world goes crazy. However, nobody seems to be able to identify this famed artist. Until now...

Check out the trailer for the upcoming film, Banksy's Coming To Dinner. The basic premise is that actress Joan Collins and a group of friends are getting together for a dinner party to meet the anonymous, and infamous artist Banksy. Called “a film within a film” that “questions the very nature of ‘reality’ at every level”, the film is a strange kind of mock-documentary. Or mockumentary if you will. And while the word on the internets is that it’s all a hoax (it’s not the real Banksy in the movie), the bizarre nature of the film is intriguing.

Big Daddy Kane Documentary.

When it comes to hip hop, there are only a handful of people that truly deserve to be called legends. In BDK, we learn the story of one of hip hop's most notable legends, Big Daddy Kane. From music to fashion, Kane has always been a quintessential figure of the Golden Era of hip hop. In this documentary, directed by Anthony Marshall (co-founder of Lyricist Lounge), Kane talks about his years growing up as a kid in New York, his life in the rap game, his influence on fashion and his lyrical superiority.

Part 2 comes in the form of a movie trailer. Mos appears in the new comedy Next Day Air, which stars Donald Faison (Scrubs) as a hapless delivery man who finds himself at the center of a drug deal gone horribly wrong when he delivers the contraband to the wrong apartment. Naturally, hilarity ensues. This movie looks like the Black Pineapple Express, except with cocaine instead of weed. It also stars Mike Epps (Top Flight Security), Wood Harris (Avon Barksdale) and Lauren London (sexy).

[VIDEO] Jadakiss (ft. Faith Evans) - "Letter to B.I.G."

Here's the video for Jada's letter to his big homie (which features nothing but footage from the upcoming Biggie biopic). This joint appears on the Notorious soundtrack, which hits stores tomorrow. The movie hits big screens Friday. It's gonna be a B.I.G. weekend.

Notorious Movie is Diddy Approved.

This is probably really good news. Because I can't front, when I first heard about this movie I was highly skeptical - at best. It seemed like a worse idea than asking Michael Jackson to babysit. Biggie has always been one of my favorite emcees of all time, and essentially, bigger than life. I just assumed you couldn't do Big justice on the Big screen. When they cast an unknown rapper named Gravy to play Biggie, I was skeptical. When they cast a 12 year old as Lil Cease, I was skeptical. When they released the teaser, I was skeptical (Notice how they didn't show ANY acting). But as the reviews started rolling in, I became less and less terrified. People actually liked it. They thought Gravy had Big's nuisances down. They thought it was a good movie. And now this...

Puff Daddy recently told MTV, "truth be told, I was blown away by the movie. I was entertained by the movie. The movie is what was happening. Can't no critics speak on it. I'm telling you, that's my life right there. That's what it was. That's what was happening."

Now he could just be saying that because he's an ego-maniac, and loved seeing himself portrayed on the silver screen. But he was also Biggie's best friend, and if anyone has the right to shit on this movie, it's Puff. Something tells me he's being honest.

"At the end of the movie, it messed me up," Diddy said. "I was messed up for two weeks. It made you miss him in the right way. It made you count your blessings. It's definitely a tear-jerker. It's definitely a movie you're gonna be dancing in, crying in, you're gonna love it. You're gonna wanna see it again."

I'm actually excited to see it now. I'm still curbing my expectations, but I'm definitely going to see it and hope for the best. At least nd you know the soundtrack will be banging. Notorious hits theaters on January 16.

Notice how they didn't show any acting? Not a good sign. I really don't know about this. I'm scared this movie will be horrible. I love Biggie, and want it to be amazing, but I have a feeling it's going to come off like a TV Movie of the Week...but at least the music will be good.

The Wackness Drops Their Purple Tape.

The Purple Tape. Any Hip-Hop head knows the reference immediately. When Raekwon dropped Only Built For Cuban Linx and it came out on a purple cassette, kids were blown away. Not to mention the music was next level.

Well, the upcoming movie, The Wackness, is trying to recapture that nostalgia. The movie—which follows a weed-dealing teenager in the summer of 1994 in NYC—features a soundtrack filled with classic ’90s New York rap shit that will get you in that summertime mood. It's only fitting that they gave out a special (purple) mixtape at the screenings with 35 classic joints that didn’t make the soundtrack. With acts like Biggie, The Wu, Tribe and Nas, it’s an ill collector’s item for the rap junkie who has everything. Go See The Wackness.

Trust me. This is a dope movie. I saw a screening last night, and I was loving it from the opening scene that was set to Nas' "The World Is Yours."

For those of you who don't know, the movie is set in the summer of 1994 in New York. The story focuses around recent high school grad, Luke Sharpiro, a teenager who sells weed, hates his life, and loves A Tribe Called Quest. It's a coming of age story about a kid who is trying to find his way amongst the madness, and becomes friends with his psychologist, asn starts crushing on his step-daughter. Oh yeah, he trades weed to his drug-addicted shrink in return for sessions. The soundtrack is off the hook, all classic songs from 1994 including Wu-Tang, Tribe, Biggie, and Nas.

It's funny, it's fresh, and it's feel-good. Go see it when it hits theaters July 3.

Marvin Gaye Hits the Big Screen.

F. Gary Gray will direct “Marvin,” a biopic of Marvin Gaye, the iconic singer who was shot to death by his father in 1984. C. Gaby Mitchell (“Blood Diamond”) is aboard to write the script.

David Foster will produce with Duncan McGillivray, [the group has] the complete music rights to Gaye’s catalog, including the hits that made him Motown’s biggest solo male star.

Those tunes include “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Heard It Through the Grapevine,” “What’s Goin’ On” and “Let’s Get It On.” Plan is to have the star of the film lip synch to Gaye’s recordings.

“My mantra was, no music, no movie, but to me, the core story is a man who spent his whole life trying to justify and prove himself to a father who beat him down physically and later mentally,” said McGillivray. “His father was a cross-dressing, alcoholic Baptist minister who was let off the hook for shooting his son.”

This is dope. The greatest soul singer of all time will finally get his shine on the big screen. I hope they pull this off correctly, and do this man's life justice. There's nothing worse than a wasted golden opportunity. The freshest part is that they have access to his whole catalogue, so the music in the movie is phenomenal. And I'm glad they are goign to have the actor lucky enough to play Marvin just lipsynch, rather than try to recreate his song, that would be damn near impossible. Nobody has ever had a voice as silky smooth as Marvin. Nobody.

Common in New Terminator Movie

According to Variety, Rapper Common has signed on to co-star in "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins." The movie focuses on John Connor (played by Christian Bale), now in his 30s, who leads what is left of the human race in a battle against the machines. Common will play a freedom fighter and Connor's right hand man.

"I said I got my SAG card, baby I'm an actor."

Look for this one in May 2009.

The Wackness

"It's called Ready To Die"..

Check this new clip from the upcoming movie The Wackness. The flick takes place NYC during the summer of the year 1994. It's about a high school kid (Josh Peck) who trying to find himself and in the process sells weed, and trades dime bags for therapy with his hippy shrink, (Ben Kingsley) and then falls for his shrink's daughter. Method Man plays a Rastafari drug dealer, and the movie is laid over a soundscape of classic olden Age Hip Hop from 1994...how could you go wrong?

I'm actually looking forward to this joint. The Wackness hits limited theaters July 3rd.

Ghostface Cut From Iron Man Movie

WTF...that was my main reason for going to see this movie.

For those of you who didn't know, the Wu-Banger Ghostface Killah was set to make a cameo as a Sheik in the upcoming Iron man movie. Of course, Ghost who calls himself Tony Starks and named his debut album Ironman, is a huge fan of the Marvel comic book series. Pretty Toney campaigned hard to get his cameo and director Jon Favreau finally agreed, and gave Ghost a scene with the movie's Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr.

"I jumped in there for maybe 12 or 16 bars, nothing too major," Ghost downplayed before describing his scene with the film's star. "It was a good look for the kid because Robert Downey Jr. recognized me as soon as I seen him. He was like, 'Yo, Tony!' ... For him to recognize me, I was kinda surprised by that. I didn't know he even knew about the kid. ... We called each other Tony onscreen. I'm like, 'Tony Stark, I got your jet, I didn't mess it up.' He was like, 'I got the Bentley for you, I laced it up.' I had two girls with me, I was like, 'That's you [pointing toward the girls].' I sent two birds at him. It was a wrap for that scene. He's a cool dude and funny. Big up to Robert Downey Jr."

But after all that, Ghostface got the cutting room floor. Damn, I bet Ghost is pissed. I'm waiting to see if he releases a diss track coming at Jon Favreau. No worries, Ghostface will still be represented in the movie. He has a song on he soundtrack titled, "Slept On Tony With Dirt," that will be playing in a party scene aboard Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) private jet.

Iron Man hits theaters this Thursday, May 1st. It's gonna blow the box office away.
